The Wilton Militia

The original Wilton Militia was active from 1727 to the 1830’s, serving in the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. In 2003, a new Wilton Militia was activated under the leadership of “Captain” Lee Wilson, as a way to involve men and boys in historic re-enactment. This group has acquired a replica Verbruggen cannon and the appropriate weapons, uniforms and accoutrements.

They belong to the 5th Connecticut Regiment Continental Line, a larger group that participates in re-enactments throughout the East. The Militia also leads the Memorial Day parade, participates in Colonial Days at the society and has off-site cannon firings and field exercises periodically. Men and boys are invited to join in the camaraderie and color of the Wilton Militia.
